Flowers - Color, Cost, Coordination, Season, Availability
How do I choose what is right for me?

Whether you are a winter bride, spring, summer, or fall bride the floral arrangements that you choose are one of the defining characteristics of your wedding ceremony, reception, and your personality (bridal bouquet). Also the motley of options can make you excited at the same time that it makes you nervous as you have to choose between so many colorful, verdant, and vibrant options. Moreover, what happens if I over do it, or choose an arrangement that clashes, or spend too little for not enough coverage?

Many brides are first intrigued by what is fashionable or trendy, so for 2006 let’s see what is en vogue. According to many experts, for a wide-ranging color spectrum that can accommodate any taste, centerpieces, arrangements, and bouquets containing hydrangeas are a striking addition. You probably can think back to any reception that you have attended and can remember the puffy mopheads and lacecaps. However, it has only been recently that a phenomenon of new hybrids have increased the flower’s range and color palate. Whatever color you choose, you can be rest assured that within days of your wedding, the blooms that define you on your wedding day will dry into a sacred memento. Another popular theme to add that last bit of sparkle and radiance to any bride begins with a choice of flowers and foliage that have their own natural luminescence in golds, greens, and whites. Enhance these colorful attributes by adding glass beads, sequins, or metallic trim.

Regardless of what is trendy, you have to feel comfortable with your choice of flowers. Herein lies the most important caveat, match your taste to your floral selections. If you are a traditional bride, the trendiest of ideas may not suit, and therefore work with your florist to accommodate your own individual style.

For those of you who always find yourself at the apex of fashion. Grab hold of what is hot, and work with your floral designer to customize arrangements, centerpieces, and bouquets that infinitely express your own unique brand of pizzazz!

However, before stretching the limits of your imagination and your florists time, remember that your budget generally has a 10% allotment for flowers. Of this 10%, you are likely to spend 55% on reception centerpieces and reception décor, 12% on ceremony decorations, 7% on your bouquet, 14% on bridesmaids’ bouquet, and 10% on boutonnieres and corsages, and 2% for the flower girl basket and tossing bouquet. Thus, everything is relative to your decision in choosing your flowers, including seasonality, city of your wedding, and even the length of your guest list. Since you have discovered, your budget and style, other considerations are listed below.

Seasonality: Availability effects cost, temperature effects presentation. A qualified florist should be able to provide answers to these two very important concerns.
Location: Don’t over do it, many local facilities have naturally flowering gardens that already are designed to enhance your wedding, thus additional décor may not only not be necessary, but add unneeded contrast.
Compliments: Once the composition of the bridal bouquet has been established, other bouquets and boutonnieres should compliment the bridal bouquet in style, flowers, and color.
Size: Consider weight of your bouquet as you’ll be carrying it most of the day. Also for appearance and cost savings, one or two large stunning blooms (orchids, tulips, or sunflowers) may be a great choice.
Holidays: Supply and demand, expect to pay upwards of 25% more for flowers during busy holidays. On the flip side, you may invest less in décor during certain times of the year, because your reception hall will have additional decorations. Ask your reception hall how they decorate, so that your choices don’t clash!

Above all, this is one of the best and most visual decisions that you make in planning your wedding. Smile, and marvel at all the choices!
