Diamonds …. Symbol of Eternal Love …. What’s your symbol?
Six couples share why they chose their cut
The cut of a diamond is the term that jewelers use to refer to a diamond’s shape. The shape affects a diamond’s brilliance (sparkle). A professionally cut diamond, above all else, can compensate for small size, color imperfections, and clarity.
Tatum (Owner Allure Salon and Gallery 331-8220, Kingston, PA), 23…My fiancée proposed to me in advance of purchasing a ring. So after getting engaged, I set out to find the ideal cut to suit my personality. I discovered a phoenix cut diamond with 3 princess cut diamonds on each side. The whole arrangement looks magnificent in a bent prism setting, which basically envelopes my whole finger.
Comment: Yes Tatum, a phoenix cut is highly out of the ordinary, but an incredible cut. It is has more facets than your traditional emerald cut. Oh, and you are a lucky girl!
The Princess cut is a square cut.
Jenny (Dallas, PA), 27… My ideal ring is a cushion cut 2 karat cut with ½ karat sapphires on the side. Featured at Tovon & Co. (Wilkes-Barre, PA)
Comment: A Cushion cut is a cross between a rectangle and an oval. There are special size restrictions for the ideal setting and brilliance.
Jack (Honesdale, PA) 31 … I purchased a round stone from Glint of Gold over Christmas and surprised my girlfriend on New Year’s Eve.
Comment: A round stone is also known as a “brilliant” cut because it has the most facets (58), more than any other cut.
Christina (Nanticoke, PA), 25 …As the last breaths of summer were leaving northeastern Pennsylvania; my fiancé surprised me with a colorless marquis cut diamond. I loved the fact that it was a complete surprise, because he picked it out without me even knowing it!
Comment: The marquis cut is similar to an oval cut, but with pointed ends for more brilliance. We all love Surprises!!
Erik (Scranton, PA), 19…I was at the giveaway at Valentine’s in Dallas, Pa on December 4, 2005 and was blown away by the Hearts on Fire Collection. I am getting ready to propose to my girlfriend on Valentine’s Day, and I think this is what I am going with.
Comment: The Hearts on Fire Diamonds are the worlds most perfectly cut diamonds.
Marie (Old Forge, PA), 46…For our 20th Anniversary, my husband surprised me with a one karat yellow emerald cut diamond and wants to have our vows renewed. It’s so much fun, like planning our first wedding the way we really should have. Wow! Let’s say 2006 will be a great year for Anthony and me!
Comment: Colored diamonds are really imperfect diamonds compared to their white counterparts. However, due to their scarcity, they can be 20 times more expensive than a similar white diamond.
