Bridal Gowns
The first step to choosing a bridal gown, and then your bridesmaids’ dresses, is to determine what your goals of the purchase. For instance, do you want to purchase a gown that will be a lasting heirloom, or are you after a very functional dress that will suffice for your wedding day? Secondly, it is important to realize that bridal gowns come in a variety of styles, materials, colors, lengths, and of course prices. Depending on the bridal shop that you choose, it may be necessary to order your gown up to 6 months prior to your wedding date. If you are looking for a gown that will be passed on to your daughter, don’t be impatient, 6 months may seem like a long time, but the skill that is employed by some of our areas finest dress shops will make it all worthwhile.
When selecting a particular style of gown, it is advisable to consult your designer on what styles and fabrics best suit your particular figure. You want to look your best, and a form fitting gown is the best start. Generally for a short, heavy figure, a princess or A-line style will produce a floating effect that will help you look taller and slimmer, and camouflage weight. A natural waist style with bouffant skirt will help those who possess short, thin figures create a more rounded look. A tall, heavy figure should choose a princess or A-line style, but it is the choice of the fabric that is most important. And for those of you with a tall, thin figure tiers and flounces will reduce the impression of height. Finally, to make sure your wedding gown is just perfect visit an experienced professional.
As a brief aside, you do not have to go to New York or Philadelphia to find an experienced and creative bridal house. Many great shops are available right in your own neighborhood, and most importantly, all of the great designers are showcased in their display windows at a fraction of the cost of the major houses in larger metropolitan areas.
